President of the World Spine Society.Ioannis Polythodorakis was born in Athens in 1964. He graduated from the Medical School of the University of Thessaloniki and specialized in Neurosurgery at the 401 G.S.N.A., the Aghia Sophia Children's Hospital and the N.I.M.T.S. He specialized in Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery at international centers in Europe and America. He established the Neurosurgical Department of the General Hospital of Arta, where he served as the Head of the Department of Neurosurgery.
He is a trainer of Neurosurgeons and Orthopaedic Surgeons in spinal surgical techniques in international centers, like the Cleveland Clinic Spine Institute (USA), the Liaquat National Hospital (Pakistan), the Dokuz Eylul University (Turkey).
His areas of interest are: Spine Surgery, Brain Surgery, Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery, Minimally Invasive Brain Surgery, Interventional Pain Management.
He is Chairman of the Board of Directors of the World Spinal Column Society (WScS), Coordinator Mediterranean and Middle East Chapter. In addition, he is a member of the European Association of Neurological Surgeons (EANS), a member of the American College of Neurological Surgeons (CNS), the American Association of Neurological Surgeons (AANS), the International Neuromodulation Society, AO-Spine and the Hellenic Neurosurgical Society, Hellenic Society of Spinal Surgery and the Hellenic Society of Algology.
