Short Bio
Dr. Ektor Panayi is considered one of the best plastic surgeons in Greece. He has carried out his medical education in some of Europe’s most prestigious institutions. After obtaining a medical degree at the renowned University of Cambridge (UK), he completed a PhD in Biomedical Engineering at the University College London (UCL, UK). He began his surgical training as a resident in Vascular Surgery at Addenbrooke’s Cambridge University Hospital. He then carried out his training in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery at the famous University Hospital Bogenhausen in Munich, under world-renowned plastic & reconstructive surgeon Prof. Milomir Ninkovic. In 2014, Dr. Panayi was a key member of the surgical team that performed the breakthrough procedure “Latissimus Dorsi Detrusor Myoplasty” for functional reconstruction of a paralysed urinary bladder (procedure first described by his mentor Prof. M. Ninkovic), at the University of Tübingen, which received wide media attention in Germany. He currently holds the position of Director of the Department of Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery at Lefkos Stavros Hospital, one of Athen’s state of the art private clinics.

SpecializationDr. Panayi completed his Fellowship in Aesthetic Plastic Surgery under the acclaimed Munich aesthetic plastic surgeon Dr. Constance Neuhann-Lorenz, before further developing his skills in aesthetic and cosmetic surgery by attending the training schools of world leading plastic surgeons such as G. Botti, M.P. Ceravolo, W. Gubisch, D. F. Richter and P. Hedén. He has worked in multiple countries around the world including UK, Germany, Sweden and China. For the past few years, Dr. Panayi has been successfully collaborating with Dr. U. Dornseifer, Director of the Department of Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery at Munich’s ISAR Clinic.
- Research Interests
Following the completion of his PhD and postdoctoral work (Habilitation) in the UK and Germany, respectively, Dr. Panayi has actively continued his scientific research, parallel to his surgical practice, leading the wound healing division of the plastic surgical department at the Technical University of Munich (TUM, Klinikum rechts der Isar) since 2012. Here, together with his colleague Prof. A.F.Schilling, he pioneered EmaCure®, a new therapy for the treatment of chronic wounds, receiving multiple awards and German government funding for clinical development. At the age of 33, he became assistant Professor for Plastic Surgery at TUM, one of Europe’s leading universities. He is considered to be an international leading authority on the field of tissue blood perfusion and angiogenesis, and has published a large volume of work in high impact scientific journals.
