Short Bio
  • Dr. Ioannis Aslanides, MD, PhD, F.R.C.Ophth, MBA, is President of the Hellenic College of Ophthalmology, Member of the Scientific Committee of the Hellenic Olympic Committee and a Fellow of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists of the United Kingdom.

     

    He is Clinical Director of Emmetropia Eye Clinic that he founded in 2005 and is based in Heraklion, Crete.

     

    Dr. Aslanides completed his residency in London in 1992 and from 1992 to 1996 he prepared his doctoral thesis at Weill-Cornell Medical College, New York, USA with subject "Very High Frequency Ultrasound in Refractive Surgery". In addition to his training in refractive surgery, Dr. Aslanides diligently enriched his clinical training and experience in other areas of Ophthalmology in the USA, Canada and the UK. More specifically:
    - In 1995-1996 he specialized in Neuro-Ophthalmology at SUNY (State university of NewYork).
    - In 1996-1997 he specialized in "Glaucoma" at the internationally renowned Wills EyeHospital, Thomas Jefferson University, Pennsylvania Philadelphia, USA.
    - In 1997-1999 he specialized in "Diseases of the Retina and Macula at the University of Toronto, Canada.
    - In 1999-2000 as a fellow of the Onassis Foundation he specialized in "Refractive Surgeryand Surgery of the Anterior Chamber of the Eye" at the University of Newcastle, in the United Kingdom.
    - In 2001-2004 he returned to Greece as Scientific Director of Refractive Surgery at the Vardinoyannio Laboratory of Microsurgery and Eye Transplantation (VEMMO) of the School of Medicine, University of Crete.

     

    Dr. Aslanides has actively participated in over 300 publications, announcements, scientific articles, book chapters, or presentations at European or global conferences and has performed over 10,000 refractive and other ophthalmological operations.
    Dr. Aslanides is Associate Professor of Ophthalmology at Weill - Cornell Medical College in New York, Visiting Professor at Wenzhou Medical University in China and scientific advisor to the medical industry of lasers and imaging systems in ophthalmology.
    Finally, Dr. Aslanides is an AeroMedical Examiner (AME Class 1) Certified by the Hellenic Civil Aviation Authority and a special consultant to the Civil Aviation Authority in Ophthalmology.
